So the election is over and JZ is the new leader for SA.  Whether you are a supporter of his or not, it doesn’t matter now because the decision has been made. What does matter is whether the new Government will deliver on its promises.  According to the ANC, their 5 top priorities are:

- Creation of decent work and sustainable livelihoods
- Education
- Health
- Rural development, food security and land reform
- The fight against crime and corruption

Looking at Education as one example, they pledge to work towards a free and compulsory education for all children.  They also have a ‘mass literacy campaign’ which aims to completely liberate SA from illiteracy by 2014 (just 5 years away...).

They make some very bold and perhaps unrealistic promises in their campaign, but I agree at least that their vision and determination to build a prosperous nation seems genuine. JZ said that his party was committed to every word it had uttered during the election campaign.  Lets hope they can keep their promises so that our children can live in a country where they feel safe, are educated to international standards, and have access to affordable quality healthcare.
